Voice of Nigeria
Voice of Nigeria started in 1961, shortly after Nigeria gained her independence from the British. With the birth of a new country, it became necessary to have a channel through which Nigeria’s growing commitment towards growth and development would be made glaring for the world to see.
Since it’s commissioning by the then prime minister, Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, voice of Nigeria has remained true to its vision of being the sole external radio medium by which Nigeria’s perspective is broadcast to other parts of the globe.
Voice of Nigeria is currently headed by Mr. Osita Okechukwu, and broadcasts in over 5 different languages including English, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. Its administrative headquarters is located in Abuja, and it heads radio broadcasting stations all over the country.
